My Review of the Audiovox VE727 Ultra Slim 7-Inch LCD Drop Down TV

My wife informed me that she had to have an under the counter TV.  She’d been to a friend’s house and was completely impressed with the kitchen TV.  With her birthday soon approaching I decided to do some research since I knew nothing about this product.

I took my time and really got into the details of the under the counter TV product.  I found out like with most consumer products, there is much more than meets the eye.  My extensive research led me to the Audiovox VE727 Ultra Slim 7-Inch LCD Drop Down TV with Built-in Slot Load DVD Player.

What to Look for When Buying an Under the Counter TV

It didn’t take me long to realize that there are some important factors to keep in mind when buying an under the counter TV.

•    Space under the counter
•    Make sure you get the features you desire
•    Compare the major brands
•    Check customer reviews to gauge user satisfaction
•    Decide how much you’re willing to spend

If you buy the first under the counter TV you check out based on price only,  I think you’ll regret your purchase.  Stick with me as I explain each of the above features in relation to the Audiovox VE727.

Space under your counter is critical.   Make sure the available space under the counter is right for the model you’re looking at.  You will want the under the counter TV to fit perfectly.  If it’s too large it will look out of place in the room and not fit with the décor of your kitchen.

Decide on what features are important to you.  Most brands come with DVD players,  AM/FM receivers,  players for CD’s and more.  The Audiovox VE727 comes with a built in DVD player.  It also as an AM/FM radio tuner.  The screen swivels so that you have a good view from anywhere in the room.  Major brand names in the under the counter tv market are Audiovox, Sony, Coby, Memorex and a few others.

Customer reviews for the Audiovox VE727 are good with 4 out of 5 stars as an average.

If you only have $200 to spend on your TV then don’t waste time looking at more expensive models.  You can always upgrade later but the Audiovox VE727 is such a great TV, especially for the price, there will really be no need for an upgrade.

Considering Buying an Under the Counter TV or Under Cabinet TV?

Under the counter TVs and under cabinet TVs seem to have become a must have in any kitchen counter or cabinet these days.  The kitchen is a place where a lot of moms labor away with countless breakfasts, lunches and dinners for the whole family.

Preparing meals can be a solitary task and thus, become quite boring for those preparing them.  Moreover, a lot of people seem to prefer having their breakfast on the kitchen counter, where it is more informal rather than on the dinner table.

Under Cabinet TV’s Make for a More Casual Eating Area

When eating on a dinner table, people seem to be a little more formal, but on kitchen counters, they can be more casual and on-the-go.  That’s why under the counter TVs and under cabinet TVs are in demand: to give those preparing meals company, keep them informed and give them something to talk about.

When shopping for under the counter TV’s there are some things to bear in mind.  Otherwise, the shopper may end up with a TV that’s too big, or limited in features.

How Much Space do You Have?

First, the shopper will need to consider how much space is available under the cabinet, counter, or area where the TV will be installed. The shopper has to make sure that he or she has the measurements of the space noted while checking out the different models.

Having an under cabinet TV that has the proper measurements will make it look very customized and will not clash with the aesthetics of the kitchen.

What Features Do You Want?

Considering the features that you want is also a must.  Under the counter TVs need not be total entertainment packages but you’re not paying much more for some nice extras.

There are some models with built-in DVD and players for CD’s, radio tuners and some are even TIVO-compatible.  Decide which features you really want.  You don’t necessarily need an entertainment center here but I think you’ll be surprised what you get for the price.

I’ve done a detailed review of the Audiovox VE927 which is a very popular under the counter tv.  Check it out here.

My Review of the Audiovox VE927

Audiovox VE927 Under the Counter TVA television in the kitchen?  Why would anyone need that!  Well where do most people spend a lot of their time in the home?  In the kitchen!  Why not an under the counter TV?

I’ve noticed that many people prefer a little larger TV for under the cabinet use.  The Audiovox VE927 is somewhat larger but still meets the needs of what most people are looking for in a kitchen television.

What You Should be Looking for in an Under the Counter TV

There are a few important considerations to keep in mind when buying an under the counter TV.

  • Space under the counter
  • Make sure you get the features you desire
  • Compare the major brands
  • Check customer reviews to gauge user satisfaction
  • Decide how much you’re willing to spend

Most of the under cabinet TV’s are very reasonably priced.  Most are in the $150-$250 range.  Since price isn’t a huge issue with these TV’s, options, features and benefits are big when making your buying decision.  Let me explain some of the features of the Audiovox VE727.

Get the ruler out and make sure how much space you have available.  When you know how much room you have, you can rule out any TV’s that exceed your maximum amount of space.  If you take this step, your under the counter TV should fit perfectly.  These TV’s are small because they need to fit in with your décor and smaller is better in this case.

Think about what features and options you just can’t do without.  It’s common for these under cabinet TV’s to have DVD players,  player for CD’s, AM/FM receivers and many more options.  The Audiovox VE927 has a DVD player, AM/FM clock radio, built-in stereo speakers and plays DVD,CD,CDR, and CDRW.  You can easily swivel the viewing screen so that you can watch comfortably from anywhere in the room.  The major brands for under the counter TV’s are Memorex, Coby, Sony and Audiovox.

Reviews by customers who have bought the Audiovox VE927 show satisfaction with a 3.5 star rating on average.

Determine how much you want to spend on the TV and then filter out the more expensive models while at the same time making sure that the options you want are included in your price range.  The Audiovox VE927 is a nice TV for the price but if you wish to upgrade later, just plan on enjoying the Audiovox now and make the decision later to spend extra to get more bells and whistles.

Audiovox VE927 Features and Benefits

  • A 9 inch drop down player- Installation is easy and can be done almost anywhere under your kitchen counters because of the slim size.
  • The DVD player can play DVD, CD, CDR and CDRW.
  • AM/FM Clock Radio and stereo speakers are also built in
  • OSD languages- English, German, Italian, Swedish, French and Portuguese are all available as OSD languages.

  • Watch all of your favorites in HD with the 16.9 Aspect Ratio.
  • You will receive TV digital  signals from anywhere in the U.S. thanks to the ATSC Tuner.

How Much Will You Pay?

The Audiovox VE927 is usually priced around $230 but you shouldn’t pay more than $215.  Amazon now has it priced at $206.99 which is the best price I’ve seen.  That also includes free shipping, free 30 day returns from Amazon and the low price guarantee.

Under the Counter TV- How About the Cost and Is the Reception Good?

The most obvious questions when you start looking at an under the counter TV is “how much do they cost” and “what’s the reception like?”  First let’s talk about the price.

These sets are priced from around $120 up to $800.  The great majority of under cabinet TV’s are in the $120-$200 price range.  These are great TV’s for that price.  They are small but then so are the more expensive sets.  They might not have all of the extras that the more expensive sets feature, but they have everything you probably need.

If you feel it’s important to have a Mega Bass Booster or another kitchen timer, then the high priced model will fit your needs.  However, did you know that the Coby 7 inch model has an LCD screen, a built in DVD/CD player and an AM/FM radio and it’s priced at less than $150?   The Coby 10 inch sells for under $200 also.

Price seems to be very much dependent on brand name with the Sony models selling for a very high price.  Coby, Audiovox and Memorex are all rated highly by satisfied customers and are priced right.  Click here to see a 5 star user review.

As far as reception, the small under the counter tv’s are excellent for viewing.  They are hooked up to your cable or satellite just as any television.  They do need to be set up near a cable outlet so that they can be plugged in.

Of course if you only use the antenna for reception, you won’t have the clear view and choice of stations as with cable or satellite.  It’s worth the time to run your wires to the new under the counter tv so you’ll have the best viewing and reception.

The price is right for a nice under cabinet tv and the viewing quality is excellent also.  I’ve reviewed a top quality under the counter tv here.

Under the Cabinet TV Features

In many homes the kitchen is the gathering place or the center of activity.  An under the cabinet TV makes the kitchen even a more enjoyable room in your home.  Since most of us have our larger television in the living room, all that’s really needed in the kitchen is a small under the counter TV.

One of the more obvious features of the under the cabinet TV is that they are digital and run off  a cable or satellite.  This requires a separate box and just make certain that you’ve allowed room for this converter box.

One of the common features you’ll find today is a built in DVD/CD player.  This is a great feature as there are times when the programs available aren’t something you’re interested in and a DVD or music is a nice option.

Also common is an AM/FM radio built in also.  Additional options that are available on some models are digital clocks and cooking timers.

Most of the screens on the under the cabinet tvs are LCD ranging in size from 7 inches to 12 inches.  The advantage of the LCD screen is that it’s thin and this is an advantage when you’re a little short on under counter space.

Since LCD screens aren’t as good when viewed from an angle, under cabinet tvs are normally fitted with screens that can be adjusted to whatever viewing angle you’re at.  This feature also allows the screen to swivel up and into a position where it can’t be seen as it’s flush with the underside of the counter.

The remote control on my unit has a neat feature in that it’s magnetic and can be placed on the refrigerator if I choose to have it near.  It’s also possible to fit a remote with a magnet if it comes without.

Remember when mounting your under the counter tv to place it near a power source and make it easy to run any satellite or cable wires to your tv.

Decide when shopping for your TV which features are important to you.  I’ve reviewed the under the cabinet tv I chose here.

Installing an Under the Counter TV

There is an old saying that goes, “measure twice / install once”.  Stick to this mantra and installing an under the counter TV will be much easier.  First, make sure you have a good idea where you want the TV to go and how many feet or inches of room you have.

You need power for the TV nearby.  Will the TV be easy to view from many angles?   Kitchen televisions are great but you’ve got to be able to see them from more than one position.  If you’re going to have a cable or other hookup you’ll need some space for those lines to reach and hook up.

If you have any accessories that might be installed under the counter, remove them to prepare for installation.  The unit will come with hardware so check out the TV and hardware in order to become familiar with the parts.  Look at the parts list to make sure they’re all there.

Read the instruction guide once through and then place the unit into the area you plan to install it in order to make sure there is room.  Hopefully you measured the area before buying so you knew how large of a unit to buy.

Mark the location of the TV so that you can install the mounting brackets.  An under the counter tv mount is going to be fine if your brackets are installed correctly.  The mounting brackets are placed against the bottom of the counter and the screws secured with a drill.

Most under the counter televisions just snap onto the mounting bracket.  However, some under the counter tvs need to be screwed onto the bracket.  Your instruction manual will give you this information.

Before you hook the TV up to cables or satellite hookups, plug it in and turn it on.  You want to make sure that your TV works before you complete any other hookups.

If you have the right tools (pretty basic for the most part), including an electric drill, the job shouldn’t be difficult and you’ll be watching your favorite shows before you know it.  I’ve reviewed customer satisfaction surveys and found an under the counter TV that was rated highly and priced low.

Under the Counter TV

Imagine if time spent in the kitchen could be spiced up.  Just picture watching one of your favorite TV chefs while cooking dinner.

It’s easy with an Under the Counter TV.  They’re sized to fit almost anywhere including the kitchen, RV, boat or in your garage.

They allow your counters to be clear because they’re mounted underneath the cabinet.  Most models have a swivel screen so you can watch it from just about anywhere.

An under the counter TV will usually have a DVD/CD player and are MP3 compatible.  Mine is small, sleek and blends in under my cabinet.

I really like the CD unit as I’ve been listening to some of my books-on-CD while spending time in the kitchen.  My cabinet didn’t have much space underneath but with a few minor adjustments the under the counter TV fits like a glove.

The first thing I did was decide how much I wanted to spend for an under the counter TV.  I then looked at the different brand’s features, the size of the screens available and the brand name.

Of course you have to measure and determine how much space you have to install the TV.  Be sure and choose one that really works well with the décor of the room you’re installing it in.

What additional media do you want with your under the counter TV?  They come with everything so you need to determine what you want or need, be it a DVD, CD player, AM/FM receiver and many more options.

There is a wide range of price depending on options and brand.  Polaroid, Audiovox, Coby and Sony are a few of the electronics companies making a good under the counter TV.

Installing the TV isn’t a difficult task.  The TV’s normally come with the hardware needed to install but you’ll need a few basic tools of your own to complete the job.

Before buying, measure carefully the area that you want to place the TV before doing your search.  Give a couple of extra inches at least so that you have a little wiggle room.

I love my under the counter TV and have dedicated this site to helping you get the information you need in purchasing your TV.
